Weekly Beauty Edit: 2.1.2015

This was headed to a boring week in beauty until my trip to Ulta yesterday. Mighty fine Haul-A-Lulu. Some good empties, too. And a nail polish that sets my "heart" aflutter!

Week in Blush
This was a Laura Geller week!  Don't remember which one I wore on what day but here they are. Left column, starting at the top is Boysenberry (with Amaretti highlight sliced in), Tartufo, and Berry Trifle. Right column starting at the top is Peach Blossom (wore this one twice), Berry, and Bora Bora. I think I own 25ish Laura Geller blushes.
Empties
YS Organic Bee Farms Honey - when you're with me any amount of time you'll note I go through a lot of raw, unpasteurized, organic jars of honey. I will remind you there is no need to buy the expensive Manuka honey, our bees in the US are just as good as the bees in New Zealand! Don't fall for the marketing. As long as it is raw, unpasteurized, unfiltered organic honey, it all has the same wonderful health and skincare properties. I use this in my nightly tea and I use this as a mask on my face. Smear it on thinly, leave it on for 15 minutes, rinse off with warm water. Skin is balanced, nourished, fresh looking, soft, moist and bouncy.

Hair, Skin and Nails Pearls - I've taken some brand of either a Hair, Skin and Nail  or straight Biotin vitamin daily for years. My nails are strong now; they were very thin, peeling and broke constantly for decades. My hair grows quickly and the strands I do have are thicker which helps disguise my thinning hair. I keep my thinning hair in check with Rogaine, HairMax laser (trying it again) and these vitamins. I don't think they grow new spouts but the vitamins keep the hair I do have healthy. I really love them for my nails, though! Takes a few months to see the results in your nails. Could be helping with my skin but don't know how I would know. Who knows what my skin would look like without them, right?

Falling in Love edt by philosophy - Will always be part of my perfume, body lotion and shower gel collection. It's a sweet, fruity scent of blackberry, vanilla and a bit of musk to tamp down the sweetness. Almost identical to Trish McEvoy No. 9. Trish is a bit fresher with a barely there hint of cucumber, to my nose.

Perricone MD Blue Plasma - This is an exfoliating serum that uses enzymes to munch away on the dead skin cells to reveal your fresh skin. I use an ezyme serum every night as my first step after cleansing. Perricone is pricey but I buy it at great price points on QVC when they sell it in kits. Identical products are SKINN Translucence and Isomers Syncronizer. I'm sure there are others. Isomers, to me, is the strongest and I can't use it or I get flaky skin. Already have a new one started.

Julep Maven Box  - In addition to the heart glitter top coat below, Hartleigh, also received a full size Glow powder highlighter in Champagne, and two polishes in Hazel, metallic royal purple, and Brandis, a teal turq creme.

 Nail Polish News
I am a Julep Maven which means I subscribe to Julep's monthly nail polish subscription. Julep has also started adding a makeup item to each box, full size! This month we also got a bonus polish for Valentine's Day, actually a top coat, Hartleigh. Adorable!

Haul-A-Lulu

NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation - I really like this foundation. Wears for 12 hours on me and looks 90% as good as it did upon application. I don't own any other foundation that performs this well. Not saying it's my favorite, only that 12 hours is a stand out in my collection.

Essie Suite Retreat from the 2015 Resort Collection - periwinkle blue with lots of purple in it. I'll have to borrow a picture from another blog because I couldn't capture the color with my camera.

IT Cosmetics Brushes for Ulta Airbrush Blurring Powder No 126 -  I think I'm having a bit of buyer's remorse on this one. I don't want to use it as I might return it. I'm not a duo fiber brush kind of girl, why did I buy this? I lose my mind at Ulta.

Smashbox Pore Minimizing Primer - love this, used it today. Wow. Review coming soon.

Smashbox Photo Filter Powder Foundation Shade 4
Smashbox Photo Filter Powder Foundation - will be returning this. I posted this on my Facebook page earlier today.....It lightens the redness in my broken capillary nose area but I can still see my halo of redness. For powder foundation that I use as foundation, rather than as as setting or finishing powder, I prefer MAC Studio Fix, IT Cosmetics Celebration, IT Cosmetics Celebration Illumination, Lancome Dual Finish, Cover FX Pressed Mineral, Avon Smooth Mineral Pressed (discontinued for 2015). If you like a finishing or setting powder that adds coverage and is matte, you will like the Smashbox for that purpose. However, I prefer Maybelline Dream Wonder pressed powder for finishing and setting; it's not quite so matte and looks more airbrushed, to me. So, Smashbox is going back.

Cheers,

Lulu
